RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – India has registered a record 168,912 Covid-19 infections in one day, data from the country’s health ministry showed on Monday, April 12. Thus India becomes the country in the world with the second-highest number of cases of the disease, surpassing Brazil and trailing only the United States.
The total number of registered cases in India reached 13.53 million, exceeding the 13.48 million registered in Brazil, according to data from the Brazilian Ministry of Health. The USA leads the ranking of countries with the highest number of cases, with 31.2 million infections.
India however, is only in fifth place in the number of Covid-19 deaths, behind the USA, Brazil, Russia, and Mexico. The country has recorded 170,179 deaths caused by the disease, while Brazil totals 353,137.
