Pfizer expects to deliver 2.4 million Covid-19 vaccine doses to Brazil this week

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Pfizer pharmaceutical company has confirmed the delivery of 2.4 million doses of its vaccine against Covid-19 to the Ministry of Health this week. Flights to the International Airport of Viracopos (VCP), in Campinas (SP), will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Each of the first two flights will carry 936,000 doses. On Thursday, another 527,000 doses will land in Viracopos.

These deliveries are part of the first contract between the pharmaceutical company and the Ministry of Health, signed on March 19, which foresees a total of 100 million doses by the end of the third quarter. There is another agreement that provides for the delivery of another 100 million doses by December this year.

With this week’s 3 deliveries, the pharmaceutical company will reach 5.8 million doses sent to Brazil since April 29, when the first batch was shipped.

History

Pfizer is the third vaccine to be used in Brazil to fight Covid-19. The first batch had 1 million doses and was delivered to Brazil on April 29, at a ceremony attended by Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga.

The second batch arrived on May 5, with 629,000 vaccines; and the third batch, with another 628,000 doses, was received on May 12. The fourth shipment also consisted of 629,000 doses and was received on May 19.

The fifth and most recent batch landed in Viracopos on May 26, with 629,000 vaccine doses. The flight left Miami (USA) and, after landing in Campinas, the batch was forwarded to the Ministry of Health’s distribution center in Guarulhos, under a tight security scheme.
