Uruguay registers 153 new cases and four Covid deaths; remains in the yellow zone (August 6)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Uruguay recorded Friday 153 new cases in 13,778 covid-19 tests and four deaths, according to the daily report of the country’s National Emergency System (Sinae).

With this information, the country has had 382,295 cases of covid-19 since the beginning of the health emergency, which in Uruguay was declared on March 13, 2020, of which 1,742 are people who are currently suffering from the disease, 35 of these admitted to intensive treatment centers (CTI).

So far, 5,986 people have died from the disease. Four men between 69 and 82 years of age died this day in Montevideo (2), Salto (northwest), and Soriano (southwest).

Uruguay remains in the yellow zone of the Harvard index, which accumulates the weekly average of new cases of covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants, with a record of 4.34 and, although all departments have active cases, three of the 19 – Rivera (north), Durazno (center) and Lavalleja (southeast) – are already in the green zone.

On the other hand, the country’s borders continue to be closed to non-residents, except for exceptions for diplomatic, personal, or economic labor reasons, with the express authorization of the Executive.

Regarding vaccination, and according to the web monitor developed by the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) until 18.22 hours (21.22 GMT) this Friday, 313,829 people have been inoculated only with the first dose, while 2,281,340 (64.39% of the population) have already completed the immunization schedule of the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac, the Anglo-Swedish AstraZeneca, and the U.S. Pfizer.

Uruguay opened this week the schedule for those who -after being immunized with Coronavac or AstraZeneca- choose to receive a third dose, in this case from Pfizer, as approved last week by the health authorities. In this regard, almost 900,000 people requested their appointment, according to the same MSP source.
