Covid-19: Venezuela reaches 3,733 deaths since pandemic began (August 10)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Venezuela on Tuesday reached 3,733 deaths due to Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic in the country, with 14 new deaths from the disease in the past 24 hours, reported Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez.

“Sadly, 14 Venezuelans died in the last hours due to the coronavirus,” Rodríguez tweeted, detailing that 5 of those deaths occurred in the state of Anzoátegui, another 5 in Zulia, 2 in Táchira, 1 in Caracas and another person in Miranda.

The Vice President also said that 896 new Covid-19 infections were recorded yesterday, “all of them community-transmitted.”

According to the data shared by Rodriguez, the region with more cases on Tuesday was Miranda with 220 infections, followed by Lara with 124, Yaracuy (103), Nueva Esparta (86), La Guaira (80), Caracas (73), Merida (43), Barinas (41), Zulia (34) and Monagas (27).

The regions with the lowest number of infections were Carabobo with 17, Sucre and Bolívar with 13, Táchira (8), Trujillo and Anzoátegui (6) and Aragua (2).

The Venezuelan government stated that since the start of the pandemic, 314,480 cases have been registered in the country, with 300,606 patients recovered, representing 95.5%, meaning that there are only 10,141 active cases.

Venezuela is still awaiting the delivery of a little over 6 million Covax mechanism vaccines, coordinated by the World Health Organization (W.H.O.), as recently announced by president Nicolás Maduro.

Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Director of Health Emergencies Ciro Ugarte explained that 12.4 million Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines, both double doses, would be sent to Venezuela to immunize 6.2 million people.

Nicolás Maduro stated last July 25 that a total of 3,612,473 citizens had been vaccinated in Venezuela and has since failed to report updated figures.
