Documentary of popular Argentine musician Andrés Calamaro premiers

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Star + platform, a streaming service of The Walt Disney Company for Latin America, premiered this Tuesday (31) a documentary on the life and work of popular Argentine musician Andrés Calamaro, who turned 60 years old last week.

The episode is part of the new season of “Bios: Vidas que marcaron la tuya”, a documentary series produced by National Geographic that portrays the most popular figures in Latin America.

In this case, the young artist Nathy Peluso is in charge of guiding the viewer through the life of Andrés Calamaro, through a series of interviews with the Buenos Aires musician and with some of the personalities who accompanied him in his more than forty years of a musical career.

The documentary includes exclusive interviews with Daniel Melingo and Cachorro López, former members of Los Abuelos de la Nada; Ariel Rot, former member of Los Rodríguez; Olga Castreno, Calamaro’s musical agent for over twenty years; and journalists Marcelo Fernández Bitar and Martín Pérez, among others.

Singer, composer, and instrumentalist, “El Salmón” is one of the most recognized and prolific Argentine artists of recent decades, with a career that includes some thirty albums, including studio and live recordings, and special compilations.

Among his most iconic songs are ‘Flaca’, ‘Mil horas’, ‘Te quiero igual’, or ‘Sin documentos’, compositions that made him one of the most popular faces of Argentine rock.

FOUR DECADES OF MUSIC

The 100-minute documentary takes a journey through the personal and artistic life of Andrés Calamaro, an audiovisual journey that reveals the lights and shadows of the musician, who composed his first song when he was only seven years old.

The viewer will discover, for example, the disputes that led to the separation of Los Rodríguez, the ins and outs of the recording of ‘Alta Suciedad’ (1997), considered Calamaro’s breakthrough album, or the fears that accompanied the composer after signing a contract with the Warner record label.

During a relaxed conversation with Nathy Peluso, between laughter and mates, Calamaro also talks about the creative void he suffered after the release of ‘El Salmón’ (2001), an album composed of 103 songs and divided into five discs, and his doubts about whether he could ever compose something of quality again.

“After six years in storage, are people going to come, and do people remember you? People doubled, people believed in the artist, they believed in what he was doing, they realized he was authentic. There was no more discussion”, says agent Olga Castreno about Calamaro’s return to the stage in 2005.

Likewise, this episode features archive material unpublished to date and images of a concert Andrés Calamaro gave in Chile on October 10, 2019, as well as other images already known about the composer’s career.

The launch of this documentary about Andrés Calamaro coincides with the arrival in Latin America of the Star + streaming service, which will be complementary and independent of Disney + for this region.
