Haiti announces arrest of alleged mastermind behind assassination of President Moise

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Haitian authorities announced this Sunday (11) the arrest of one of the alleged masterminds of the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, Dr. Emmanuel Sanon.

“When the bandits’ advance was blocked, the first person they called was Emmanuel Sanon,” said the director-general of the Haitian National Police, Léon Charles.

Police are also investigating two other alleged masterminds of the assassination, who were in contact with Sanon, a Haitian-born doctor based in Florida, but their identities were not disclosed.

Similarly, the police have taken “precautionary measures” against those responsible for President Moïse’s security and information is being gathered in order to determine “the degree of involvement of each one”.

According to investigations, Sanon contacted a Venezuelan security company based in the United States in order to recruit members of the commando team that allegedly carried out the assassination.

SANON TRAVELED WITH COLOMBIAN MERCENARIES

Sanon entered Haiti on a private flight in early June, accompanied by some of the Colombian mercenaries, whom he hired for the purpose of ensuring his personal and business security. Some years back, Sanon had announced himself as a candidate to become president of Haiti.

Subsequently, “the mission changed” and one of the Colombians was presented with a warrant for the arrest of the President. “The operation was mounted from there,” Charles said.

Sanon is the third Haitian arrested in the case, in addition to 18 other Colombians accused of being part of the commando who allegedly attacked Jovenel Moïse’s residence last Wednesday.

Five other Colombians are on the run and three were killed in shootouts with the police, which took place between Wednesday and Thursday in different parts of Port-au-Prince.
