RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Friday, August 6, the United States imposed visa restrictions on 50 immediate family members of Nicaraguan lawmakers, prosecutors, and judges linked to the government of President Daniel Ortega and his wife and vice president, Rosario Murillo, while denouncing Nicaragua’s arrest of some 30 political opponents.
“As these actions demonstrate, the United States is committed to promoting broad accountability for anyone responsible for or benefiting from the Ortega-Murillo regime’s attacks on democratic institutions,” the State Department said in a note.
