Change of Power in Belize: Center-Left Party Appoints New Prime Minister

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - The center-left People's United Party (PUP) won the parliamentary elections in Belize with a sweeping victory. Former opposition leader John Briceño has thus become the country's new Prime Minister.

According to the counting results, PUP won 26 of 31 seats in the House of Representatives, while the conservative United Democratic Party (UDP) lost 14 seats and now holds only five. Voter turnout was over 80 . . .
