Domínguez highlighted that this figure is “much higher” than what was distributed in 2016 and assured that transfers were maintained in recent months, despite the pandemic.

During his presentation to the Council, the president of Conmebol also addressed the development of the Copa América 2021, held in Brazil, after the rejection of Argentina and Colombia, initial venues.

Domínguez emphasized “the fulfillment of the tournament’s sporting objectives, the high efficiency of the sanitary protocols and the record reach of the broadcasts around the world,” Conmebol said in a statement.

He also informed the members of the Council of his visit to Montevideo (Uruguay) to sign the contract to celebrate the single finals of the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana at the Centenario Stadium in the Uruguayan capital.

In preparation for these events, the field, stands, press area, lighting, and other stadium areas will be upgraded.

The Council also approved the selection of Chile as the host country for the U-20 Women’s Qualifiers in February 2022, which will serve as a qualifier for the World Cup in this category.

The request for triple dates in September and October for the South American Qualifiers for Qatar 2022 was also approved.

This decision aims to adjust the competition’s calendar after the suspension of the matches in March, although the final decision depends on FIFA’s word.
