Insecurity in Paraguay Decreased Fifty Percent, Says Minister
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Juan Ernesto Villamayor, the Paraguayan Minister of the Interior, said in a cabinet meeting that his ministry would release a statistical report showing that during the first year of the government of Mario Abdo Benítez, of the right-wing Colorado Party, the rate of insecurity in the country has decreased.
“Today, a year into Mario Abdo Benítez’s government, the issue of security in comparison to the previous administration’s first year decreased by more than fifty percent, and the data confirms this. On Monday, by invitation from the Senate, I am going to present the data (in parliament),” he said the night before.
He further pointed out that a fight against organized crime has been carried out during the current administration. “No other government in Paraguay‘s history has fought organized crime to this extent, and no other has produced as many results like these,” he stressed. Organized crime was reduced by forty and street theft by thirty percent, he said and emphasized that no kidnappings have been recorded.
