American Airlines said to cancel direct flights to Uruguay and Chile

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - American Airlines has extended the suspension and cancellation of several of its international routes, including Montevideo, Uruguay and Santiago, Chile.

In detail, it will reduce its summer international capacity by approximately 10%, and its domestic offer by 7.5% over March, in reaction to the low flight demand.

Flights between Miami and Montevideo will be suspended from March 31st to December 17th. This route had been reinstated on November 5th last year.

This travel suspension raised concern among Uruguayan government officials, who stated that the country needs international connections for local tourism to be reactivated.
