Argentine farmers post 23.7 million ton sales of 2020/21 soy

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL –  Argentine farmers have sold 23.7 million tons of soy from the 2020/21 season after posting transactions in the week of 788,800 tons, the Agriculture Ministry said Tuesday in a report with data updated through June 30.

The pace of sales of Argentina’s main crop is lower than the previous season, when sales for 26.3 million tons of the oilseed were recorded on the same date, according to official data.

Argentina’s 2020/21 soybean harvest would reach 43.5 million tons, according to the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange (BdeC), which for the 2019/20 season has calculated a production of 49 million tons.

Meanwhile, sales of 2021/22 soy have now reached 1 million tons, down from 1.2 million on the same date last season.

Regarding corn, the government said that sales of the 2020/21 season have posted a total of 32.2 million tons, some 3 million tons more than recorded on the same date last season.

The BdeC’s crop estimate for 2020/21 corn is 48 million tons. The crop also records sales for the 2021/22 season of 4.5 million tons, although sowing is still months away.

Meanwhile, wheat for 2021/22 posts sales of 4 million tons, up from 2.8 million sold on the same date last season, the Agriculture Ministry said.
