Moïse’s state funeral to be held on July 23 in northern Haiti

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Haiti’s Minister of Culture and Communication, Pradel Henriquez, revealed this Friday (16) that the funeral of the president assassinated last July 7, Jovenel Moïse, will take place next July 23. Although the burial will be on Friday of next week, the funeral services will be postponed from Tuesday, July 20.

In addition, the authorities intend to pay tribute to him at the National Pantheon Museum in Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital.

On Thursday, July 22, the wake will be held, and on Friday, the funeral will take place in the city of Cap-Haitien, at the request of the president’s family.

It is expected that in the coming hours, the Haitian government will publish a decree establishing the exact times and places of the ceremonies in commemoration of Moïse.

A few days ago, one of the Colombian ex-military men, whose identity SEMANA keeps confidential for security reasons and so as not to hinder the investigations, confessed to the Haitian authorities everything that allegedly happened in the assassination.

The retired military alleged that 7 of the 21 Colombians were the assassins of President Jovenel Moïse on July 7.

The president was shot in his bed when he was resting with his wife, Martine. Their two children managed to hide in a bathroom.

According to the interim director general of the Haitian National Police (HNP), Léon Charles, the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse was planned in a hotel in the Dominican Republic.

The police released a picture in which Christian Emmanuel Sanon, James Solages, both already arrested, Joël John Joseph, who is still being sought, among other perpetrators of the assassination of the president, are seen in a hotel in the Dominican Republic. According to Léon Charles, the people in this photo were planning the assassination of President Moïse.

“They met in a hotel in Santo Domingo. Around the table are the intellectual authors, a technical recruitment group, and a fundraising group. Some of those in the photo have already been arrested,” said Charles.

On the other hand, in the last few hours the director of the Colombian Police, General Jorge Luis Vargas, said that the intellectual author of this act is Joseph Felix Badio, who was the one who informed Colombian soldiers Germán Rivera and Duberney Capador that the operation was no longer to kidnap the president, but rather to assassinate him.

According to Haitian authorities, three Colombians were arrested, and 18 others were apprehended for the assassination of the president. The accused are constantly being interviewed by the police to advance the investigation and find the masterminds.

Charles maintains that the masterminds of the assassination of the Haitian president recruited experts to ensure the success of the operation. “They are ex-soldiers of the Colombian special forces. They are experts, criminals. This is a well-planned operation,” he said.

Among the Haitians arrested are James Solages and Joseph Vincent, who the police chief said were involved in the assassination’s planning, recruitment, and operations.

Léon Charles said police found evidence of other Haitian defendants, and authorities have already issued four wanted notices in connection with the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse.

“The wanted persons answer to the names of Joseph Felix Badio (coordinator of the field operation, former senator John Joël Joseph (treasurer of the operation), Rodolph (Dodof) Jaar (coordinator of the field operation) and Gordon Phenil Désir (car rental),” he said.
