RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The director of Paraguayan Customs, Julio Fernández, said that a total of just over 986,000 million guaraníes (about US$144 million) was collected in Paraguay, an amount 19% higher than the amount collected in July 2020.
He explained that this positive trend in revenue is because consumption is currently recovering. There is greater predictability regarding the coronavirus, as cases and hospitalizations are beginning to decrease due to vaccines against Covid-19.
Fernández explained in an interview with Radio Nacional del Paraguay that 94% of containers entering and leaving the country are transported by water and that the country has so far seen an increase in revenue despite the drought and the current low water levels, which make river navigation difficult.
Finally, he said that cumulative revenues from January to July 2021 amounted to 6,154,000 million guaraníes (about US$918 million), increasing 19% compared to the same period in 2020.
