RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The documentary film “Apenas el sol” [‘Nothing but the sun’] will represent Paraguay on the road to the Oscars of the Hollywood Academy Awards, as announced Friday (22) by the Academy of Cinema of the country.
“We are pleased to announce that ‘Apenas el Sol’ by Arami Ullón is the film that will represent Paraguay at the 94th edition of the Oscar Awards in 2022,” is the text of the message posted on the official account of the Paraguayan Film Academy.

The synopsis of “Apenas el sol”, published on its official website, indicates that the protagonist crosses the Paraguayan Chaco “recording the stories, songs, and testimonies of other Ayoreo who, like him were dispossessed from the jungle, losing their ancestral territory, their means of subsistence, their beliefs and their home.”
This film, which reflects the protagonist’s desire to preserve his culture, opened the Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival in 2020.
Its director, Arami Ullón, who splits his residence between Switzerland and Paraguay, was the director of “El tiempo nublado” (2014). This film had a long run in international festivals and was Paraguay’s first nomination for the Oscars in the 2016 edition.
The 94th edition of the Oscars is scheduled for March 27, 2022, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood (Los Angeles, United States).
