Paraguayan Rum Captures International Market

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Paraguayan liquor is attracting more and more foreign palates, as the brand Fortín is aware, which was once again awarded in a global competition. This time, at the “International Rum Conference” in Miami, where it won two gold medals.

“This validates the effort that the company has been undertaking for the appreciation of Paraguayan liquor or rum in the world. With these awards, Paraguayan liquor is now recognized in markets such as France, Germany, Belgium, and the United States, which a couple of years ago was unthinkable. The export potential with these prizes is limitless,” said Christian Rasmussen, marketing manager at Fortín.

Currently, the industrial plant, located in the city of Piribebuy, processes eight million liters a year, and a significant part of that volume is exported to France, Belgium, Italy, and Germany. “In our portfolio, we have new markets which we will soon be entering. The awards obtained are crucial, but not enough, since the entry into each country requires intense work,” said the executive.

Regarding the International Rum Conference, he explained that it is a blind tasting, where judges test the rums presented by all of the world’s rum wineries unaware of the brands or producers, and assess the characteristics of more than 300 rums.

He pointed out that both in 2015 and 2016 Fortín had already won silver and bronze medals in the same competition, and in this edition it achieved the gold medal in two categories: the limited edition of the “Don Gustavo” rum, which won the medal in the category “Extra Aged Superior Rums”, and the “Fortín Takuare’ê Orgánico” Rum, which won the medal in the category “Organic White Rums”.

He adds that they plan to continue innovating, open new markets and continue promoting the appreciation of this drink.
