Argentina reports 6,935 new Covid-19 cases and 115 deaths (July 18)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Argentina on Sunday (18) reported 6,935 new cases of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, raising the total number of infections to 4,756,378, while deaths increased to 101,549, after 115 fatalities were reported in the past 24 hours.

In the province of Buenos Aires 1,711 cases were reported on Sunday, while 685 infections were recorded in the country’s capital city, 663 in Santa Fe (center), and 473 in Córdoba.

According to the official report, 4.39 million patients have been discharged, while the number of people with a confirmed diagnosis for Covid-19 hospitalized in intensive care units reached 4,783 on Sunday.

The occupancy rate of intensive care beds for all types of pathologies stands at 60.7% nationwide and at 58% if only Buenos Aires and its populous periphery are considered.

So far, 18.2 million tests have been performed in Argentina to detect the virus, of which 52,894 were on Sunday.

Argentina in April and May experienced a dizzying upsurge in Covid-19 cases, with an increase in bed occupancy in intensive care units, but the upward curve of positive cases began to ease in June, following the implementation of new sanitary restrictions.

Argentina registered its daily record number of cases on May 27, when 41,080 were reported; the highest number of deaths in a single day occurred on June 21, with 792.

With a population of some 45 million, Argentina continues its vaccination campaign against the coronavirus, which began at the end of last December.

According to official data released on Sunday, 27.4 million vaccine doses have been administered to date. A total of 21.9 million people have been administered the first vaccine dose while 5.4 million have now been inoculated with the second dose.
