Brazil passes 445,000 Covid deaths and approaches 16 million infected (May 21)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil has registered in the last 24 hours 2,215 deaths and 76,855 new cases of Covid-19, according to data released on Friday (21) by the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass).

With the updated figures, the country reaches 446,309 deaths and 15,970,949 cases of Covid-19, which makes Brazil one of the nations most affected by the pandemic in the world.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, Brazil is the second country in the world in number of deaths by Covid-19, behind only the United States, which totals 589,000 deaths.

As for the number of people infected, Brazil ranks third globally, behind the USA and India, according to data from Johns Hopkins.
