Brazil Records 1.66 Million Confirmed Cases of Covid-19 (July 7th)
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil has reached 66,741 deaths and 1,668,589 cases from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

There were 1,254 new deaths and 45,305 new infections registered over the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health’s update released yesterday, July 7th. To date, 976,977 people have recovered and there are 624,871 people in follow-up.
On Monday, the balance reported 65,487 deaths and 1,623,284 confirmed cases as a result of the pandemic.
The lethality rate (number of deaths by total cases) stood at four percent. The mortality rate (number of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants) reached 31.8. The incidence of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants is 794.
According to the Ministry of Health, Brazil ranks second in the world in both deaths and infections, behind only the United States. According to the Johns Hopkins University global map, the United States counts 2,980,906 infections and 131,248 lives lost since the start of the pandemic.
The Ministry of Health’s daily figures are lower on Sundays and Mondays due to restrictions on reporting teams at municipal and state secretariats, and higher on Tuesdays, when there is an increase in the number of records that have accumulated as a result.
Regions
The regions with the most deaths are Southeast (30,518), Northeast (21,605), North (10,115), Midwest (2,442), and South (2,061).
The states with the most deaths from the pandemic are São Paulo (16,475), Rio de Janeiro (10,881), Ceará (6,556), Pará (5,128) and Pernambuco (5,234). The states with the fewest deaths are Mato Grosso do Sul (128), Tocantins (228), Roraima (376), Acre (399), and Santa Catarina (419).
