Brazil records 2,398 new Covid deaths and total reaches 454,429 (May 26)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil on Wednesday reported 2,398 new deaths from Covid-19, bringing the total number of fatalities from the disease in the country to 454,429, the Ministry of Health said.

According to the Ministry, the country recorded 80,486 new cases, with the total number of infections advancing to 16,274,695.

Brazil has the second-highest number of deaths from Covid-19 globally, below only the United States, and the third-highest count of confirmed coronavirus cases, behind the U.S. and India.

In a bulletin published on Wednesday, the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) warned of a new upsurge of the pandemic in the coming weeks.
