Brazil Totals 159,000 Covid Deaths; Rolling Daily Average Stands at 439 (October 29th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The media outlet consortium released a new survey of the coronavirus pandemic situation in Brazil based on data from state Health Secretariats, which were completed at 8 PM on Thursday, October 29th.

The country registered 553 deaths by Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, reaching a total of 159,033 deaths since the start of the pandemic. As a result, the rolling average of deaths in Brazil in the past 7 days stood at 439. There was a -13 percent variation over the average of 14 days ago, pointing to a stability trend in Covid deaths, that is, when there was no significant increase or decrease over the period.

The day before, this average reached 432, the lowest mark since May 5th, when it stood at 411. Now it is rising again, after three days in decline.

In terms of confirmed cases, 5,496,402 Brazilians have been or are infected with the novel coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, with 26,647 of these confirmed on Wednesday. The rolling average of new cases in the past 7 days was 24,389 per day, a variation of +18 percent compared to the cases recorded two weeks ago. This suggests an increase over the past 14 days for the third consecutive day.

Five states register an increase in deaths: Espírito Santo, Acre, Amazonas, Amapá and Ceará. Eleven states and the Federal District present curves that point to a drop.

It should be noted that there are states in which the low average number of deaths can lead to large percentage variations. In Acre, for instance, the average stood at one in the period of two weeks, resulting in a variation of +40 percent. It was similar to what occurred in Amapá, where the average remained at one, and the variation was of +60 percent. The rolling averages data are, in general, in decimal numbers and rounded to simplify the presentation of data.
