Brazil Totals 4.55 Million Cases and 137,200 Covid-19 Deaths (September 21st)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In the past 24 hours, Brazil recorded 377 deaths by Covid-19, totaling 137,272 fatalities since the start of the pandemic. On Sunday the system counted a total of 136,895 deaths. There are a further 2,428 deaths under investigation.

The data are included in the daily update published by the Ministry of Health on Monday evening, September 21st.

The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases has reached 4,558,068. Between Sunday and Monday, the state Health Secretariats notified 13,439 new positive diagnoses of infection by the novel coronavirus.

The reported cases are typically lower on Sundays and Mondays due to the constraints of the state Health Secretariats in feeding the national database. On Tuesdays, the figures have typically been higher, due to the submission of data accumulated over the weekend.

According to yesterday’s update, 533,597 people are under follow-up and another 3,887,199 have already recovered.

States

The states with the highest number of deaths are São Paulo (33,984), Rio de Janeiro (17,727), Ceará (8,834), Pernambuco (8,016), and Minas Gerais (6,727).

The states which have lost the fewest lives to date are Roraima (613), Acre (649), Amapá (693), Tocantins (867), and Mato Grosso do Sul (1,179).
