Brazilians with full immunization represent 16.2% of vaccine-eligible population

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In Brazil, 71.152 million people were vaccinated with the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine as of Saturday, June 26, the Ministry of Health reported. The total number represents 45% of the 158.095 million people over the age of 18 in the country.

A total of 25.583 million Brazilians received the first and second doses of the vaccine or the single dose of Janssen, completing the vaccination cycle. This represents 16.2% of the country’s vaccine-eligible population.

The information is on the LocalizaSUS vaccination panel, the Ministry of Health’s platform that tracks the progress of the Covid-19 vaccination campaign.

A total of 96.736 million doses, divided into first dose, second dose, and single-dose, have been administered since vaccination began in January. In the last 24 hours, 1.158 million doses were administered.

Until last week, only two-dose vaccines were available in Brazil to complete the vaccination cycle: those from AstraZeneca, CoronaVac, and Pfizer. However, since last Tuesday the country has also been receiving Janssen’s single-dose vaccine.

More than 1.8 million doses of Janssen were expected, under a Ministry contract for 38 million units signed with the pharmaceutical company, which was not expected to arrive until October. Last Friday, another 3 million doses of Janssen were donated by the U.S. government.

On Sunday , the country received a new batch of 936,000 doses of vaccine from Pfizer/BioNTech.
