Colombia reports 32,376 Covid-19 cases and 664 deaths (June 27)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Colombian health authorities on Sunday, June 27, reported 32,376 Covid-19 cases in a day, down slightly from Saturday’s record high, and also reported 664 new deaths from the disease.

The country now totals 104,678 deaths from Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic and 4,158,716 cases, of which 187,395 are still active, or 4.5%.

Bogotá again accounted for the highest number of infections, although with a slight decrease compared to previous days, and 7,087 cases occurred in the capital, followed by Antioquia (3,855), Cundinamarca (2,752), Santander (2,146), Valle del Cauca (2,011) and Cordoba (1,585).

Thus, Bogotá continues to accumulate the highest number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,225,804, followed by Antioquia (633,973), Valle del Cauca (321,651), Atlántico (289,464) and Cundinamarca (218,026).

On Sunday, 99,305 tests were conducted, including 54,047 PCR and 45,258 antigen samples, for a total of 19.6 million tests.

MORE THAN 17 MILLION VACCINATIONS

On the other hand, vaccination accelerated last week and the Ministry of Health reported that over the past seven days an average of 300,000 vaccines have been administered daily. In fact, on Saturday 330,694 were administered, raising the total to 17,024,426 million doses since the campaign began.

“Yesterday, June 27, 2021, (…) we met the goal of vaccinating 17 million Colombians that had been specified for the end of June, this goal is achieved four days early,” said on Sunday Minister of Health Fernando Ruiz.

Almost 6 million Colombians (12%) are fully vaccinated, and 33.8% have at least one dose.

In addition, , single-dose Janssen vaccines, delivered to the country last week and which will be used in areas with difficult access, began to be administered on Saturday.

That day, almost 2 million vaccines from Chinese Sinovac pharmaceutical company also arrived for private companies that have acquired them to immunize their workers, making Colombia being “the first country in the continent to have vaccines acquired by the private sector.”
