Coronavirus Cases Rise in Argentina for Third Consecutive Day
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Thursday, the Ministry of Health reported that over the past 24 hours, 30 deaths and 1,386 new positive cases of coronavirus were recorded. With these data, the total number of infections throughout the country reaches 27,373, and the fatalities total 765.

Of the total number of cases, 999 (3.6 percent) are imported; 11,091 (40.5 percent) came from close contacts with confirmed cases; 10,542 (38.5 percent) are community-circulation cases; and the remainder are still under epidemiological investigation.
Yesterday, June 11th, six new deaths were reported: four women, two aged 63 and 76, from the province of Buenos Aires; one aged 47, from Misiones; and one aged 67, resident in the city of Buenos Aires; and two men, aged 91 and 49, also residing in the province.
The evening report recorded 24 more deaths. Seventeen men, six aged 65, 32, 71, 68, 86 and 64, from the City; ten aged 41, 35, 48, 69, 85, 70, 55, 85, 60 and 82, from the Province; and one aged 55, from Chaco; and seven women, five aged 80, 55, 59, 29 and 84, from the Province of Buenos Aires; one aged 79, from Río Negro; and one aged 46, from the Federal Capital.
Regarding the cases reported yesterday, Carla Vizzotti, National Secretary of Access to Health, pointed out that “92 percent belong to the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA), where there is also an increase in the index of positive cases measured by the tests conducted”. While in the rest of the country it stood at 9.5 percent, in the city, it increased by 43.1 percent and in the province of Buenos Aires by 29.8 percent, which pushed the national average up by 28.4 percent.
Yesterday, 6,288 new samples were collected and 214,807 diagnostic tests have been performed for the disease since the outbreak began, equivalent to 4,734 samples per million inhabitants. To date, the total number of discharged patients stands at 8,332.
The number of cases ruled out until yesterday (by laboratory and clinical/epidemiological criteria) stands at 151,512. The main age groups affected by the recorded cases are people between 20 and 59 years of age, with an average age of 36.
Of the new 1,386 cases, 756 are from the province of Buenos Aires, 538 from the city of Buenos Aires, 48 from Chaco, 14 from Neuquén, 14 from Río Negro, six from Entre Ríos, three from Córdoba, three from Corrientes, two from Santa Fe, one from Mendoza, and one from Misiones.
The overall mortality rate is 16.2 per million inhabitants and the lethality – measured by the number of positive cases – is below three percent.
After the confirmation of the first infection in Formosa, Vizzotti explained why the case was not recorded in the province. “It concerns a person who left his place of residence – where there is community transmission – and traveled to Formosa to work, so that positive case should be considered for the migrant’s province of origin, namely Buenos Aires,” said the official.
To date, Catamarca is the only province with no cases reported, while La Pampa records only imported cases and has not detected any infections for over 14 days, as have San Luis and Tierra del Fuego.
Vizzotti said that in relation to the epidemiological situation, it is clear “where community-based viral transmission persists,” and that it is there where “intensifying care measures, epidemiological surveillance and compliance with protocols is very important”.
