RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil has reached 118,649 deaths due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, according to the Ministry of Health’s daily update released on Thursday evening, August 27th.
The result marks an increase of 0.8 percent over Wednesday when 117,665 deaths were counted since the start of the pandemic. In the past 24 hours, 984 new deaths were recorded.
Cumulative cases reached 3,761,391. Between Wednesday and Thursday, the Health Secretariats forwarded to the Ministry of Health data on 44,235 new infection diagnoses. The total marks an increase of 1.2 percent over Wednesday when the Ministry of Health’s panel presented 3,717,156 cumulative cases.

Still according to the update, 695,492 people are under follow-up and a further 2,947,250 have already recovered.
Covid-19 in the states
The states with the highest number of deaths were São Paulo (29,415), Rio de Janeiro (15,859), Ceará (8,265), Pernambuco (7,480), and Pará (6,102).
The states with the lowest number of deaths so far are Roraima (586), Acre (607), Tocantins (635), Amapá (652), and Mato Grosso do Sul (800).
