Covid-19: Brazil Counts Cumulative 121,300 Deaths, 3.9 Million Cases (August 31st)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Since the start of the pandemic, 121,381 people in Brazil have died from Covid-19. In the last 24 hours, 553 new deaths have been recorded.

The data are included in the Ministry of Health’s update released on Monday evening, August 31st. On Sunday, the Ministry’s panel recorded 120,868 deaths. There are a total of 2,708 deaths under investigation.

According to the portfolio’s report, the number of infections since the start of the pandemic reached 3,908,272. Between Sunday and Monday, the state Health Secretariats added 45,961 new cases to the statistics. On Sunday, the Ministry of Health’s system included 3,862,311 cumulative cases.

Cases are fewer on Sundays and Mondays due to the limitations on feeding data by the Health Secretariat’s teams. On Tuesdays, the number has usually been higher due to the sending of backlogged data from the weekend.

Also according to the update, 689,157 people are in follow-up and another 3,097,734 have already recovered.

The lethality rate (number of deaths by the total of cases) stood at 3.1 percent. The mortality rate (number of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants) reached 57.8. The incidence of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants stands at 1859.8.

Covid-19 in the States of Brazil

The states with the highest number of deaths were São Paulo (30,014), Rio de Janeiro (16,065), Ceará (8,409), Pernambuco (7,593), and Pará (6,146).

The states with fewest deaths to date are Roraima (587), Acre (612), Tocantins (673), Amapá (661), and Mato Grosso do Sul (862).
