Covid-19: Brazil Counts 33,500 New Cases, 836 Deaths in 24 Hours (September 22nd)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil had 836 deaths and 33,536 new cases of the new coronavirus recorded in the past 24 hours. The data are included in the Ministry of Health’s daily update, released on Tuesday evening, September 22nd.

The total of deaths caused by Covid-19 reacheD 138,108, an increase of 0.6 percent over Monday’s total when the Ministry’s panel recorded 137,272 deaths. There are a further 2,423 deaths under investigation.

With the new diagnoses notified by the state Health Secretariats, the cumulative number of  cases totals 4,591,604. The result represents an increase of 0.7 percent over Monday’s sum of 4,558,068 infections since the start of the pandemic.

According to the Ministry of Health, 507,869 people are being monitored and another 3,945,627 have already recovered.

São Paulo exceeds 945,000 confirmed coronavirus cases

Since the start of the pandemic to date, the state of São Paulo has recorded 945,422 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, with 34,266 deaths. In the past 24 hours alone, the state has counted 8,090 new cases and 282 new deaths by Covid-19.

Of the total cases diagnosed in the state, 810,750 have already recovered, 103,628 after hospitalization. Although last week the state recorded an increase in the number of new cases and deaths by Covid-19, the number of hospitalized patients has been dropping.

Yesterday, the state had 9,758 people hospitalized for suspected or confirmed novel coronavirus cases, 4,195 of them are in critical condition. The intensive care unit (ICU) bed occupancy rate stands at 47.2 percent in the state and 46.5 percent in Greater São Paulo.

Other states

The state of Rio de Janeiro is the state with the second-highest number of deaths by Covid-19 (17,798), followed by Ceará (8,850), Pernambuco (8,055), and Minas Gerais (6,764).

The states with the lowest number of deaths are Roraima (616), Acre (651), Amapá (695), Tocantins (877), and Mato Grosso do Sul (1,191).
