Covid-19: Brazil Counts 922 Deaths in 24 Hours, Exceeds 129,000 Fatalities (September 10th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Since the start of the novel coronavirus pandemic in Brazil, 129,575 people have died from Covid-19, point out yesterday’s data from the media outlets consortium. In the past 24 hours, 922 deaths were reported.

Between Wednesday and Thursday, there were 40,431 confirmed diagnoses in the country, totaling 4,239,763 infections.

The rolling average of deaths, which estimates the daily deaths based on the records of the past seven days, points to 692 deaths per day, which means that there was a drop of 21 percent in 14 days.

According to the consortium’s survey, 16 states recorded a deceleration in the rolling average of deaths from the disease in the 14-day variation, while Acre recorded an increase.

There was a drop in four of the regions: Midwest (-17 percent), Northeast (-29 percent), North (-24 percent), and Southeast (-22 percent). Only the South remained stable (-7 percent).

The variation in the states:

• Acceleration: Acre
• Stability: Ceará, Federal District, Maranhão, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Pará, Pernambuco, Paraná, Roraima, and Rio Grande do Sul.
• Decrease: Alagoas, Amazonas, Amapá, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Paraíba, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio de Janeiro, Rondônia, Santa Catarina, São Paulo, Sergipe, and Tocantins.

Between Wednesday and Thursday, the Ministry of Health counted 983 more deaths by Covid-19, totaling 129,522 deaths in Brazil as a result of the novel coronavirus.

Yesterday, the total of people infected with the disease in the country reached 4,238,446, with 40,557 positive tests recorded in the past 24 hours.

The first person infected by Covid-19 in Rio says that she still has not recovered her sense of smell.

Attorney Jeniffer Melgaço, who in March was the first person to test positive for Covid-19 in the state of Rio de Janeiro, says that she is still suffering from loss of smell.

“In the first month, I still felt tired during the day and, sometimes, I suffered from headaches. Today, six months after the positive test, I still suffer from the complete loss of smell and change in taste”, said Jennifer.

Until now, her identity was being protected. She claims she was attacked on social media, sometimes accused of carrying the disease into Brazil.
