Covid-19: Brazil Records Cumulative 160,000 Deaths and 5.56 Million Cases (November 3d)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Deaths caused by the novel coronavirus pandemic now stand at 160,496, according to the Ministry of Health’s update released on Tuesday, November 3rd, based on data from State Health Secretariats.

In 24 hours, 243 deaths were recorded. There are still 2,316 deaths under investigation.

The number of people infected with the novel coronavirus since the start of the pandemic now stands at 5,566,049. Between Monday and Tuesday, 11,843 new positive diagnoses were reported.

According to the Ministry of Health’s update, there are still 377,337 patients under follow-up. Another 5,028,216 people are listed as already recovered from the disease: 90.3 percent of the total infected.

Cases and deaths are lower on Sundays and Mondays due to the limited systematization and feeding of data of the Ministry of Health’s panel by the state Secretariats on weekends.

On Tuesdays, the daily numbers tend to rise due to the accumulation of cases on weekends reported that day. This week, with Monday’s holiday, November 2nd, there was also a decrease in the sending of records by the state health authorities.

Covid-19 in the states

The states with the highest number of deaths are São Paulo (39,364), Rio de Janeiro (20,651), Ceará (9,362), Minas Gerais (9,050), and Pernambuco (8,643).

The states with fewest fatal cases are Roraima (692), Acre (695), Amapá (751), Tocantins (1,100), and Rondônia (1,460).
