Covid-19: Brazil Records 59,962 New Cases in 24 Hours (July 23rd)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Data from the Ministry of Health show that of the 2.22 million Brazilians infected with the novel coronavirus, 68.6 percent recovered from the disease, 3.7 percent died and 27.7 percent are undergoing treatment. The data is included in the Ministry of Health’s daily update, released yesterday, July 23rd.

The accumulated number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Brazil amounts to 2,228,475. In the last 24 hours, 59,962 new positive diagnoses of the disease have been added to the Ministry of Health’s statistics.

The country has reached 84,082 deaths from the novel coronavirus. According to the Ministry’s balance, there were 1,311 deaths recorded over the past 24 hours. A total of 3,786 deaths are under investigation.

To date, 1,570,237 patients have recovered from the disease and 633,156 people are under treatment.

Brazil ranks second in the world in the number of confirmed cases and deaths of Covid-19, behind only the United States, which has hit the mark of four million infections and 144,032 deaths from the novel coronavirus.

Covid-19 in the states

The states with the most Covid-19 deaths are São Paulo (20,894), Rio de Janeiro (12,535), Ceará (7,374), Pernambuco (6,211), and Pará (5,616). The states with the fewest deaths from the novel coronavirus are Mato Grosso do Sul (266), Tocantins (326), Roraima (458), Acre (474), and Amapá (548).

The states with the most confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic are São Paulo (452,007), Ceará (156,242), Rio de Janeiro (151,549), Pará (144,467), and Bahia (138,358). The states with the fewest recorded infections are Mato Grosso do Sul (19,671), Tocantins (19,423), Acre (18,157), Roraima (27,932), and Rondônia (34,080).
