Covid-19: Brazil Records Another 1,271 Deaths and 47,100 New Cases (August 27th)
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Ministry of Health’s daily report recorded 1,271 additional deaths and 47,134 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. The update systematizes data submitted by the State Health Secretariats regarding the advancement of the pandemic.
With the new deaths added to the statistics, the total since the start of the pandemic has reached 116,580. The result marks an increase of 1.1 percent over Monday’s update when the number of deaths stood at 115,309. There are further 2,868 deaths under investigation.
Still according to the epidemiological bulletin, the cumulative total of confirmed cases has reached 3,669,995. The sum represents an increase of 1.3 percent over the previous day’s total of 3,622,861 people infected.

The statistics are typically lower on Sundays and Mondays due to the challenge in feeding data by the Health Secretariats on weekends. On Tuesdays, there is a trend for larger numbers due to the accumulation of records sent to the Ministry of Health’s system.
The Ministry’s update also recorded 705,020 people in follow-up and another 2,848,395 who have already recovered from the disease.
The lethality rate (number of deaths by the total of cases) stood at 3.2 percent. The mortality rate (number of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants) reached 55.5. The incidence of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants stands at 1746.4.
Covid-19 in the states
The states with the highest recorded deaths were São Paulo (28,912), Rio de Janeiro (15,560), Ceará (8,339), Pernambuco (7,425), and Pará (6,078).
The states with fewest deaths are Roraima (582), Acre (607), Tocantins (610), Amapá (642), and Mato Grosso do Sul (767).
