Covid-19: Brazil Totals 4.4 Million Cases and 134,900 Deaths (September 17th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil has reached 4,455,386 Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic. Within 24 hours, since Wednesday’s bulletin, 36,303 new positive diagnoses for novel coronavirus infection have been recorded.

The data are included in the Ministry of Health’s daily update, released on Thursday evening, September 17th. The report is based on data submitted by state Health Secretariats.

According to the Ministry of Health’s system, the novel coronavirus has claimed 134,935 lives since the start of the pandemic. Between Wednesday and Thursday, 829 new deaths were added to the statistics. On Wednesday, the Ministry of Health’s system recorded 134,106 deaths. There are further 2,396 deaths under investigation.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Health also released the new Covid-19 epidemiological bulletin, according to which the weekly number of cases dropped 30 percent and deaths by 13 percent.

According to the update, 567,369 people are under follow-up and another 3,753,082 have recovered.

States

The states with the highest number of deaths are São Paulo (33,472), Rio de Janeiro (17,453), Ceará (8,774), Pernambuco (7,954), and Pará (6,421).

The states with the fewest lives lost so far are Roraima (611), Acre (646), Amapá (688), Tocantins (840), and Mato Grosso do Sul (1,133).
