Government of Minas Gerais Investigates Potential Case of Covid-19 Reinfection
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Minas Gerais Deputy Secretary of Health, Marcelo Cabral, reported on Friday, July 10th, that the state government is investigating a potential case of re-infection by the coronavirus.

Nurse Libério Tadeu Fonseca, 22, lived in Itatiaiuçu, 72 km from Belo Horizonte, and was diagnosed with Covid-19 in April. He completed his social isolation and returned to work. The following month, Liberius was tested again, but the result was negative.

However, in June, Libério developed severe Covid-19 symptoms and died last Monday, July 6th, in Itaúna, 76 km from the capital of Minas Gerais. A new test pointed out the cause of death as “complications by Covid-19”.
The Minas Gerais Deputy Secretary of Health, Marcelo Cabral, pointed out in a press conference that there is no scientific evidence as to whether a reinfection can indeed occur.
“We are not dealing with an exact science. Science is characterized by research. It’s only natural that there are some such questions”.
A factor considered in this case is a genetic disorder diagnosed in Liberius’ mother. Edriana of Fátima, 44, who died infected by the virus two days before her son.
