Mexico Registered 24 Reactions to Pfizer/BioNtech Vaccine Against Covid-19

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In the first hours of immunization with the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine, Mexico registered 24 reactions typical of the drug, the Ministry of Health confirmed on Sunday, December 27th.

The Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, reported that the symptoms were vagovagal reflex (decreased respiratory activity), hypoglycemia, dizziness, laryngeal spasm, myalgia, artralgia and fever.

However, he clarified that fever can also be an immune response of the body itself and is an expected reaction because the protective immune response is being mounted.

At the same time, he explained that being without fever does not mean a negative or inadequate immune response and therefore they have been left without protection, since only some people have these symptoms.

He considered that some of these symptoms occurred because many people went to be vaccinated without previously having breakfast, for which he recommended from that experience to eat before going to the immunization center.

Mexico is among the first countries in the world in contagion and transmission of the SARS-CoV2 coronavirus responsible for the Covid-19 disease with 1,362,564 cases and 121,172 deaths

López-Gatell explained there were minor effects in a reaction that occurred during the application of 2,924 doses in Mexico City, Querétaro and the State of Mexico.
