Rio de Janeiro relaxes restrictions on individual and collective activities in the city

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On April14, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, issued a decree permitting the practice of individual and collective activities in squares, parks, beaches and streets of the city, as well as open spaces of common use in private areas, when guided by physical education professionals “provided they do not generate crowds and meet the measures to protect life. The decree was published in the Municipal Gazette.

Sunbathing on the sand of the beaches is still forbidden. The social and sports clubs will be able to work from 6 AM to 9 PM; before, the measure was valid from 11 AM. The other restrictive opening measures for commerce, services, and industries have not changed.

The new decree changed the April 1st decision, which provided for the restrictive emergency measures of an exceptional and temporary nature to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
Flexibility

On Friday, April 9, Rio de Janeiro’s City Hall had decided to relax the restrictive measures imposed since March 26. The rule was valid until next Tuesday, April 19. Bars and restaurants are allowed to work in person until 9 PM. Street vendors are prohibited from working on the beach sand, and it is forbidden to park on the beachfront.
