São Paulo brings Covid-19 vaccination for 37-39 year-olds forward to Thursday

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The government of the State of São Paulo advanced to today, July 8, the vaccination against Covid-19 for people aged 37 to 39 years old. The immunization of this group was previously scheduled to begin next Thursday, July 15.

The schedule of the State Immunization Plan calls for the entire adult population of the state’s 645 municipalities to have received at least one dose of a vaccine by September 15.

Yesterday, Governor João Doria announced the purchase of another 4 million doses of the vaccine Coronavac ready for immunization – 2.7 million doses landed at Guarulhos International Airport and another batch with 1.3 million should be delivered by July 26.

Coronavac is produced by the Chinese laboratory Sinovac, which also has a technology transfer partnership with the Butantan Institute, to produce the vaccine in Brazil.

“With each new batch of vaccines, we take another step in our State Immunization Plan. All adults 40 years old and older are already vaccinated and now another age group will have the opportunity to protect themselves against Covid-19,” says the general coordinator of the plan, Regiane de Paula.

According to the state government, this week alone, the municipalities received another 1.6 million doses that start being applied today.
