Butantan receives active pharmaceutical ingredient for 20 million vaccine doses

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Butantan Institute today, July 13, received a shipment of 12,000 liters of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) to produce the CoronaVac vaccine against Covid-19.

The cargo left Beijing last Sunday, July 11, stopped over in Switzerland and landed at São Paulo’s Guarulhos International Airport at 4:30 AM today.

The preparation of the vaccines for administration by the National Immunization Program should take 15 to 20 days. The immunizers will then be available across the country.

Butantan has supplied 53.1 million vaccine doses produced in partnership with Chinese Sinovac laboratory. The Institute has signed two contracts with the Ministry of Health to supply 100 million doses of the immunizer by the end of August.
