Criminals Break Into Galeão Airport Cargo Terminal in Rio de Janeiro

Several armed men in two cars and a motorcycle, broke into Latam's domestic cargo terminal at Tom Jobim/Galeão International Airport (GIG), on Ilha do Governador, in northern Rio de Janeiro.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - The criminals arrived at the scene at approximately 10 AM, October 19th, according to the terminal's video cameras.

According to officials heard by the Civil Police, the gang's weapons were hidden inside the two cars. In a statement, Riogaleão, the concessionaire that manages the airport, denies that the criminals took cargo from inside the Latam terminal, contrary to what the State Police reported.

"The domestic cargo terminal of Latam airline, located in Riogaleão Cargo, experienced an attempted robbery on Saturday morning, October 19th. The terminal's security team thwarted the criminals' efforts . . .
