Hate Speech Against Chinese on Twitter Grows 900 Percent

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A company specializing in monitoring the toxicity of digital platforms, L1ght, shared a report showing that hate speech against China and the Chinese increased by 900 percent.

“People are spending more and more time online and are therefore being exposed to more and more hate speech. Hatred instigators are most likely using this climate of uncertainty and tension to encourage discriminatory behavior and, according to our data, racist abuse is targeting Asians. The toxic ‘tweets‘ are using toxic language to accuse Asians of carrying the coronavirus and accusing the Asians as a whole of spreading the virus,” says the report shared by The Next Web.

Along with the hate speech are a number of hashtags designed to generate this discriminatory effect.
