SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – A Latam Boeing 767 bound for Rome, Italy, was forced to return to Guarulhos International Airport (São Paulo) after an aircraft malfunction on Saturday, June 15th. The passengers were anxious.
According to information from one of the passengers aboard flight LA8110, Ana Paula Magalhães, just over 20 minutes after the plane took off, the captain reported an issue. To dump the fuel and be able to land again, the captain was forced to fly over the terminal for approximately two hours.
“I was very nervous. I spoke to a stewardess, and she told me that it wasn’t a normal occurrence, but that it was the best choice, a standard safety procedure,” she told Metrópoles.
Through a note, Latam confirmed the stewardess’ version. The report states that it was “unscheduled corrective maintenance”. The Boeing landed normally at Guarulhos at 6:26 PM and the passengers were rerouted in another aircraft.
Read the company’s note: “Latam Airlines Brasil informs that, due to the demand for unscheduled corrective maintenance, flight LA8110 (São Paulo/Guarulhos – Rome) has returned to its original departure point. The company reaffirms that safety is an imperative priority and, above all, all its decisions are designed to ensure safe operation. Lastly, the company regrets the event and clarifies that it is working to minimize the impact on passengers.”
