11RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - On Wednesday afternoon, June 10th, a man armed with a knife broke into TV Globo's newsroom in the Botanical Garden in Rio de Janeiro's south zone.
According to the Metrópoles website, the still-unidentified man jumped the access turnstiles to TV Globo screaming "Globo is garbage", and demanded to see journalist Renata Vasconcellos. He took as a hostage reporter Marina Araújo, who was near the scene.
Rede Globo's general director of journalism, Ali Kamel, tried to negotiate with the criminal, but the man was then immobilized and neutralized by the police . . .
