Brazil’s Santa Catarina state shivering from cold with record-breaking -8.9° C

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Extreme cold and subzero temperatures in all regions marked Friday morning (30) in Santa Catarina.

For the second day in a row, the record of the lowest temperature of the year was broken in the state: In Urupema, the thermometer read -8.9 °C at 7 a.m., surpassing the -8.6 °C of Thursday (29) in Bom Jardim da Serra.

The lowest temperatures were recorded by Epagri/Ciram in the mountains, as usual, but the values were also very low in the middle of the state. In Ponte Alta do Norte, the minimum was -6.5 °C, while in Curitibanos, the thermometers showed -6.6 °C at 7 am.
