RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – President Jair Bolsonaro confirmed that the federal government had submitted a bill to the National Congress with the primary objective of recovering R$4 billion per year, with the hardening of the debt collection system from significant debtors.
The proposal seeks to reinforce the collection of outstanding debts and the fight against debtors who have used illegal practices to evade tax obligations.
On Twitter, Bolsonaro stated that the target is the taxpayer with debts above R$ 15 million for over a year.
“There are groups accountable for debts of up to R$ 40 billion. The focus of this action is the major debtor,” reads the text.
According to a note from the Ministry of Economy, the purpose is to cover both social security debts as well as other debts.
