Man Spotted Carrying Stove on Electric Scooter in Rio’s Copacabana

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A video showing a man carrying a stove on an electric scooter in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro’s South Zone, went viral on social media on Tuesday, July 16th.

To accomplish this feat, the man hoisted the stove on his back with the help of a rope while driving the scooter.

In a note sent to RedeTV! Portal, the Municipal Guard informed that carrying cargo is banned and stressed that there is a penalty, depending on the regulation. However, City Hall is in the process of instructing and orienting electric scooters users.

“The Municipal Guard warns that this type of transportation, in addition to being banned, endangers the life of the user and may cause accidents on public roads, involving pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, and drivers,” states a passage from the statement.

GroW, Yellow’s electric scooter brand owner, said, in a note, that cargo transportation is banned, according to a municipal decree. The company also pointed out that it conducts educational activities to raise awareness among the population about the correct use of the equipment in Rio.
