Partial Lunar Eclipse Will be Visible in Brazil on Tuesday Evening

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Tuesday night, July 16th, Brazil will be in a position to see a partial lunar eclipse — when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align and our planet shadows over the satellite.

The phenomenon will be similar to what Brazil was able to witness in January of this year. The entire phenomenon will last five hours and 33 minutes.

The umbra phase — when the shadow of the sun begins to be observed on the moon — will start at 5.01 PM (local time) and will last two hours and 51 minutes.

The lunar eclipse is an astronomical phenomenon that occurs when the Earth’s shadow totally or partially conceals the moon. It occurs when the sun, earth, and moon are aligned.

Unlike a total solar eclipse — when the Sun is “concealed” — the observation of the lunar eclipse does not require protective goggles.

The naked eye may observe the moon.

This is the last lunar eclipse of the year. The next total visible lunar eclipse in Brazil will not occur before May 2022.
