Brazil’s Federal Treasury Seizes 850,000 Euros at Rio Airport

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Federal Treasury seized yesterday, September 28th, little more than €850,000 (US$930,000) in the luggage of a passenger who landed at Galeão Airport, in Rio de Janeiro.

He had landed on a flight from Belém and said he had no proof of the money’s source.

The man was approached by the Customs Surveillance Service team during a routine operation.

“The passenger declared not to have proof of the money’s source and to be only the carrier of the amount”, reported the Federal Treasury in a note.

The man’s identity has not been disclosed.

He was taken to the Federal Police after the completion of the customs formalities.
