RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The woman was carrying two passengers when a shooting broke out between the police and criminals, according to the G1 news website.
According to police sources, two suspects were arrested during the clash. A third suspect managed to escape to the interior of a favela close to the scene.
On Sunday, the State Police explained that the police officers involved in the shooting were patrolling the road where the shooting occurred (Estrada do Camboatá) and that, after a car was stolen, they confronted the suspects.
The woman was rushed to the hospital but did not survive her injuries.
The G1 report also recalls that this incident occurred in the same location where musician Evaldo Rosa died in April this year after his car was shot 80 times.
The detective inspector in charge of Evaldo Rosa’s case said that “everything suggests” that the state police mistook the musician’s car for that of robbers.
