Casa Geyer Museum in Rio Awarded R$1.2 Million to Become Cultural Center

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Casa Geyer Museum, in Cosme Velho, South Zone of Rio, succeeded in raising R$1.2 million (US$300,000) for the remodeling project to become a cultural center.

The information was published in the blog of journalist Lauro Jardim.

According to the blog, the house was awarded the grant from UNIPAR via the Culture Incentive Law. The company’s CEO, Frank Geyer Abubakir, is the grandson of the property’s original owners.

The venue is expected to be open to the public in 2022 for the 200th Independence Anniversary celebrations. Works are expected to begin in March 2021. The house was donated to the Imperial Museum in 1999 and became a branch of the Petrópolis Museum in 2014 when it was declared a federal monument.

The collection includes books, albums, paintings, prints, lithographs, drawings, maps, and other art pieces collected over 40 years, totaling approximately 4,000 works.
