Museu do Açude in Rio Hosts “Scorzelli Megabichos” Exhibition

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Museu do Açude will be hosting the “Scorzelli Megabichos” exhibition by designer and artist Marcos Scorzelli as of August 18th.

The exhibition will feature some twenty new installations in steel plates to be on display outdoors in the Museum’s gardens.

The exhibition features 3.5 meters tall giraffes and an elephant family. Giant octopuses will be installed in the water mirror, in addition to the other animals that will be on display in the venue.

The exhibition is also intended to encourage playful activities for children of all ages, who will be free to produce their own artwork, reproducing a large-scale animal in corrugated cardboard. Using a few folds and simple motions, children will be able to create colorful and very interesting animals.

The Museu do Açude is located in the largest urban forest in the world. All installations and multiple works of art will be available for sale.

About the artist:

Marcos Scorzelli is from Rio de Janeiro, graduated in design at PUC do Rio University and began his career by innovating in architectural projects as a corporate interior designer and scenographer.

Together with his father, he founded Scorzelli Arquitetura e Design in 1993 and over the course of 23 years he has garnered several awards for corporate projects developed for large companies.

An amateur photographer, he is in love with Rio. He developed his artistic style by experiencing nature and exploring every corner of his city.

About the Museu do Açude:

The Museu do Açude, integrant of the Castro Maya Museums is an ancient property converted into a museum, located in Alto da Boa Vista.

The 1913 mansion in Alto da Boa Vista with its ample green area, relics, and structure of the time are the highlights of this museum.

The old home of patron Raymundo Ottoni de Castro Maya, a Parisian art lover who lived in Rio until the age of 74, houses one of the most beautiful museums in the city. It boasts spacious gardens, trails, sculptures, fountains and swimming pools.

The Circuito de Arte Contemporânea (Contemporary Art Circuit) is an open-air museum circuit, with works by contemporary artists Anna Maria Maiolino, Eduardo Coimbra, Helio Oiticica, Iole de Freitas, Lygia Pape, Nuno Ramos, Piotr Uklanski, Angelo Venosa, José Resende, and Waltercio Caldas, thus becoming the largest open-air contemporary art gallery in Rio de Janeiro.
